Strawberry Smiles

The farmer planted beautiful strawberry plants two years ago. The first year just as the strawberries began to ripen the deer wiped them out, plants and all. The second year the farmer enclosed the bed which kept them from eating all of them. However, they would push their head under the fencing and nibble around the edges. But we still didn't get any strawberries. He didn't cover them with bird netting and in the matter of a few days all berries were gone.

This year the farmer had success. Those plants were covered so well it is a wonder the sun could get to the berries. But look how beautiful those plants are!

This is what I picked tonight. It is hard to beat a great Oregon strawberry.

So for dinner we fixed a wilted lettuce and bacon salad like my mom used to make using fresh lettuce from our garden and our own fresh eggs. So good. This followed by a bowl of those sweet strawberries.

And just because I want to remember this dogwood outside my office building I had to take a picture. The dogwoods this year have had beautiful full blooms.

Now this made me smile. I could watch this over and over. What a great couple.

Oh My! Those strawberries sure look tasty! And the salad, too. We just started with chicks this year, and I can't wait until they are old enough to give us fresh eggs.

The strawberry plants look so healthy. And the berries look mouthwatering.
I planted strawberries this year and not a one of them came up. I will never again plant those ones that are packaged dormant. But I am determined to grow strawberries, I WILL prevail!
The dogwood is beautiful. I want one in my yard.
That video was sooooo cute! I could watch it over and over, too. I'll have to send a link to my Mother-in-law, she'll love it too.

I'll bet you had some very happy deer & birds in your neighbourhood for a couple of years. :o)

That looks like a delicious meal. Nothing like stuff fresh out of the garden. Yum.

The dogwoods have been blooming like crazy around here too. Absolutely gorgeous!

That video is precious. Proving once again, you're as young as you feel! They can play at my party any time.

You got me with the strawberries and salad. The video was a bonus!
I remember Oregon strawberries. I picked them for wages for many years, and still enjoyed eating them, too. They were real strawberries, red all the way through.

The video was so sweet. What a great couple! I wanted to start a strawberry bed this summer, but when I tried to buy plants everyone was sold out! :(

I am so jealous of your lovely strawberries. Out here, they came in about a month ago. I bought some at the farmer's market. We scarfed down most of them so there's just one lonely packet of them in the freezer. We want to save them for the winter, but I swear I can hear them whispering to me.

But! With all that said, I can NOT imagine how delicious yours are. Fresh from your garden...oh my! Oh My!

Berries look really yummy. Ours look good but I'm not impressed with the taste. The salad looks so good! Recipe? And, I might just steal that YouTube idea and put it on my blog too. Don't be surprised if you see it there. I feel the need to share the glee. :)

YUM!!! That salad looks rad! And Byron is lusting over the strawberries, of course :)

I LOOOOVED that video--especially the little butt pats that old couple exchanged as they swiped behind one another to change spots!!! That was hysterical :)

The strawberries are amazing! We've gotten 3 this year. I think it's just too darn hot in Texas to grow them.

Those berries look so bright, beautiful and yummy! My husbands mother had a nice strawberry patch when they lived in Idaho and the berries were always so good. She would make jam and we would enjoy it for months...=) I have never had luck growing berries...they don't seem to like our desert heat. The salad looks yummy too!

Our strawberries had an incredible year this year, too! But the season is long over - I can't believe you're still getting some. I totally would've added those berries right to that delicious salad you made. A nice balsamic vinaigrette on top and...Mmmmmmm...the little bit of sweet those berries provide is incredible! :-)

The video of the couple is wonderful! My husband loved it too. Did you see how he pats her bottom every time they switch sides? SO cute! :-)
