Strutting Their Stuff

Yes spring is in the air. I know this not by looking at all the flowers and trees in bloom but by the rude awakening which happens on this Saturday morning as I am trying to sleep past seven. For me seven is sleeping in and I just wanted to stay in bed a little longer. But no.

These guys are just outside my bedroom window and between the gobbling and hissing as they puff out their chests for the ladies and the annoying woodpecker who seems to think he needs to drill a hole in the side of the house, sleeping was not to be. Then there are the birds who see themselves in the reflection of our windows and repeatedly fly up and tap the glass. Those were the alarm clock for my daughter Kelli this morning. You have just gotta love spring.

Yeah, you better high tail it.

Ha!!! We have a woodpecker too. He (or she) has set up a nest in the area above our master bathroom. Before New Year's Tim went up and covered up the screen that he ripped out to get in there. Soon after that the bird came back and ripped apart all the screens to the vents in the upper part of the house! We still haven't gotten them fixed. Oh, and then on a Sunday morning I heard this 'jackhammer' type noise while I was in the living room reading. I said "What's that?" Tim replied from the kitchen that it sounded like a jackhammer and asked where it came from. He entered the living room and headed toward the window. I said "No, it came from there" and pointed at the fireplace. He looked at me like "Yeah, right." (I'm getting a feeling of deja vu here...have I told you this or blogged about it before???) Anyway, it happened again and he incredulously looked at the fireplace. (I had a self-satisfied smug expression from that one, lemme' tell you.) Anyway, we had to turn the gas fireplace on to get the bird to quit pecking on the metal chimney (or whatever that thing is).

(The BIRD ripped out the screen, not Tim... I need to preview my comments!)

I didn't know you had turkeys living with you. I like to laze and snooze with the sounds you just described. I like all the little animals noises that my critters make when all is well with the world. The woodpecker though...that's another story.

That last picture reminds me of beautiful Japanese fans! Beautiful!!

Animal sounds typically relax me and help me sleep...well except for obnoxious woodpeckers. We had one that would try to peck the heck out of our rooftop METAL exhaust pipe. Stupid Pecker!
Sounded like a jackhammer! lol!

We keep our chickens and roosters in their house until we wake up, so they don't wake up the neighbors. Their coop is right beside the house, but their crows never bother me. :)

Happy Spring!
(It snowed here yesterday)

Now see there. I would have been sleeping like a big dog. You know, like when it's raining. The sounds of nature would let me know all is right with the world and I can relax and enjoy.
My turkeys never fluff out their tail feathers or chests like that. Wonder why?

Say what?

Turkey butt!

Yes, I'm juvenile.

We have a woodpecker, too, but he attacks the trees, not the house (thank goodness). The cardinals and chicadees will wake us if he doesn't!

My husband would love to help you out with your problem-if only you didn't live on the other side of the country :)

I wouldn't want to deal with them here, but I sure love to look at photos of YOUR toms; such handsome boys - and they know it He hasn't been a problem for the last year, but we had a flicker that insisted on drumming on the metal cover of our chimney. That was LOUD!

I so love Spring! My bedroom window above my head is open all night, just so I can awaken to the singing of the birds that signal Spring!
No, I don't enjoy the woodpecker that likes our trees (thankfully our house has steel siding!).
The turkeys are gorgeous! Maybe noisey on a Sat morn...but what a sight!

Great turkey pics! Love the fan tails in the second one.

Your blog looks great! You must have made the wrappers bigger. I got brave and did that, too, the other day.

I'm pretty sure I would have gotten up and shot somebody! Sleeping in is the most wonderful present to ourselves. They are very beautiful and healthy looking turkeys. Nice job!

LOVE the wild turkeys! I finally got to see a pair last weekend. I hear them all the time, but have never been able to locate them when they call.
