Did You Know?

Did you know that chickens had teeth? Well I have one vicious special hen.

We only have eight hens right now and when I go to gather the eggs most often they will just sit there and let me get them, perhaps with a little cackling at me. Except for one. This one always, and I mean always pecks me and makes a lot of noise.  For the most part it doesn't really bother me that much because it never has really hurt.

Times are a changing though. This time she grabbed me with her beak and tossed me around the hen house. She clamped down on my finger and when I pulled it out she had drawn blood. See those teeth?

She just might have an appointment with an axe if she isn't careful.

I've had a hen like that a time or two.....they end up visiting the axe :) Not nice to bite the hand that feeds you!

I wonder if she is related to Spartacus the chicken trying to take over the world at Suzanne's site?

She may be the alpha hen but you are the alpha Farmer's Wife.

Wow, you really do have a LITTLE egg farm if you have only eight, or maybe seven, hens!

That photo is to funny....=) There always seems to be a cranky one in the bunch! Maybe she is going "broody" and therefore getting very moody.

Why are the hens still on the eggs when you go out to get them? Mine just lay theirs and get on with their day, unless they've gone broody.

Once the ax is applied, you can send her to Camp Crock Pot or Camp Sub Zero, depending on her age. :)

I used to have a couple of "rogue" roosters at my barn; they had been fighters....and they were particularly nasty...until my dad's big hands wrung their necks for attacking me, my sister, mom, horse,3 cats and him!!!! He even posted a sign that said "no fighting chickensh*ts at this barn"!!!! Nobody dropped them off anymore

may I suggest wearing a scary mask whilst collecting eggs? this will distract the mean chicken, leaving her too shocked to peck at you. just a thought. oh, and take pictures when you do. :)

This completely cracked me up. I'm glad I am finally catching up on some blog reading. Unfortunately, it took a sick day to do so, but I'm glad I saw this post. I was able to laugh through the headache, congestion and dizziness, and that's gotta be a good thing!

All I can say is that you're brave for even collecting the eggs with those chickens nearby--they creep me out, and I've ALWAYS been afraid to be pecked! I'll only collect eggs if the chickens are outside. Creepy little creatures.

But I LOVE the teeth on your hen--I swear that's how they all look when I go out there!

Mean chicken! When I was a kid I was always afraid of being flogged by the chickens!
